HARVEST IN THE OPEN-AIR MUSEUM

HARVEST IN THE OPEN-AIR MUSEUM

2 August 2020

10.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.

The event dedicated to traditions and works connected with time of harvest as well as methods of grain processing. Harvesters with scythes and sickles appear on fields and next to them there is a horse drawn reaper at work. Every participant has the opportunity to try their hands at reaping, picking up grain with sickles, or binding and setting sheaves upright. Visitors may familiarise themselves with a custom of “decorating a quail” and watch the process of making a harvest wreath. For children there are workshops “How was it with grain?”, during which they learn how to flail, winnow, and mill grain with hand mills or groats grinders. All the presentations are held with the use of authentic tools and machines, in a natural scenery of a Masovian village. The culminating point of the museum harvest are harvest festival performances given by folk bands.
